In 2017, the procession included effigies of Revolutionary War heroes Benjamin Tallmadge and Caleb Brewster; Jonas Smith, Stony Brook’s first millionaire; Ward Melville, the founder of Stony Brook Village, America’s first planned business community, and his philanthropist wife, Dorothy Melville.

Stony Brook, NY – Thank you to Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU) for sponsoring Ocean Avenue’s 4th grade students to attend The Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s Stony Brook Grist Mill, c. 1751, Long Island’s most completely equipped working mill. The Mill is listed on the National and New York State Register of Historic Places. Students discovered the principles of how water powers the mill’s mechanisms.

This year is the 10th Anniversary of the Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s Jewels & Jeans Gala and we intend to honor three outstanding Long Islanders!
The event will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Flowerfield in St. James, from 6:00PM – 9:30PM. Enjoy good food, great cocktails, a silent and live auction, music and fellowship the whole night long!
So, dust off your jeans, grab those jewels and join us to help raise funds for our many programs and historic properties. The Ward Melville Heritage Organization offers over 70 programs annually for ages 1-101, serving thousands of people each year.
