DESCRIPTION:In 2026\, the United States will commemorate its 250th anniversary\, also known as the Semiquincentennial\, marking the 250-year anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4\, 1776. \nStarting in 2026\, The Ward Melville Heritage Organization (WMHO) will be hosting events to celebrate the 250th anniversary. Stay tuned for more details\, or call WMHO 631-751-2244. \nThe Ward Melville Heritage Organization and the North Shore Promotion Alliance are participating in The Suffolk County 250th “Passport Book”. The book is now available online through Barnes and Noble Online (not the retail locations)\, Amazon\, Lulu.com\, and as a free download. DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION FOR THE 2026 SCARECROW COMPETITION IS NOW OPEN! Deadline for Registration is Wednesday\, September 23rd. \nClick here to download the registration form: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1t6VmqZXkcxDkBoUDE89eMptEbI5K84JE/view?usp=sharing  \nScarecrows of all shapes\, sizes\, and personalities will soon take over Stony Brook Village Center for the Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s (WMHO) 36th Annual Scarecrow Competition. A beloved community tradition\, the competition invites visitors to stroll through the Village and vote for their favorite creations. Winning scarecrows compete for cash prizes. Voting is free and open to all. \nParticipants can compete in three categories: \n\nCategory A: Previous First Prize Winners & Professionals\nCategory B: Individual Adults or Families (adults take the lead)\nCategory C: Individuals or Groups of Children (12 & under)\n\nBallots will be available in every shop throughout Stony Brook Village Center starting October 3. Completed ballots may be returned to any shop to be counted.
