The Ward Melville Heritage Organization (WMHO) is proud to announce that it has been awarded the global Pinnacle Award by the Center of Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC) for the organization’s distance learning programs about the American Revolution, the Underground Railroad and the Salt Marsh Ecosystem.

Each year CILC awards the Pinnacle Award to Content Providers who receive the highest ratings in evaluations by the educators and activity coordinators who participated in their distance learning programs from the previous year.

The WMHO has provided distance learning programs since 1996, directly out of their authentic historic and environmental properties. These programs and properties include Windows Through Time: Journals of American Revolutionary War Spies and Become a Spy at the Brewster House (c.1665); Medicine: Past, Present & Future, Knowledge is Power: Patriots, Slavery and Freedom in the American North and Patriots & Poultices at the Thompson House (c. 1709); Electronic Explorations: The Salt Marsh Ecosystem, Living Off the Land: Long Island’s Original Inhabitants and Long Island Sound Connections at the Dr. Erwin Ernst Marine Conservation, as well as Running Scared, Running Free: Escape to the Promised Land, a virtual experience that transports students to the United States after the Fugitive Slave Act was passed.

The WMHO is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation founded in 1939 by businessman and philanthropist Ward Melville. Inspired by his legacy to preserve historic and environmentally sensitive properties, the WMHO continues to protect and interpret these Long Island treasures. The organization owns and manages properties deeded to it by Ward Melville and creates interdisciplinary educational and cultural experiences that integrate history, art, theater, music, science, and technology for all ages.

CILC is a non-profit corporation connecting children and their educators with virtual learning experiences from over 200 content providers around the world. Each year CILC awards the Pinnacle Award to Content Providers who receive the highest ratings in evaluations by the educators and activity coordinators who participated in their distance learning programs from the previous year.
