The Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s Youth Corps is a volunteer group run by students and facilitated by WMHO staff and volunteers with a common goal of doing something positive to help our community. Youth Corps Programs:

We have a number of projects and activities related to preserving history and environment, as well as fostering community. Please review the list below of some of the activities that you may be involved in, then check all the activities listed below that interest you.

Community

  • Long Island's Got Talent: The Youth Corps helps organize a talent show for youth and teens.
  • The Santa Fund: The Youth Corps raises funds to help needy families during the holidays.

History

  • Miller's Assistant at The Stony Brook Grist Mill: The Youth Corps assistants the miller at the grist mill mill. Duties include running the Grist Mill Gift Shop
  • Oral History Project: The Youth Corps members interview older members of the community to document their stories.

Environment

  • Spartina Planting: The Youth Corps members create wildlife habitat by planting spartina grass at West Meadow Creek, The Ward Melville Heritage Organization's 88-acre wetland preserve.
  • Invasive Species Project: The Youth Corps remove invasive plants from the habitat at West Meadow Creek.
